Rydia (Final Fantasy 4)

Well I just realized I have done a horrible job keeping up my cosplay blog and have many completed costumes to share so today I am making it a goal to start getting  this page updated. I left off with progress of Rydia (Final Fantasy iv) which I wore last year to A-kon 26.

As I probably stated in my previous post, the fabric for the corset, arm pieces, and belt pieces were all constructed from an old prom dress that I found at the $2 goodwill. As always, working on a budget while still making things look good is my goal, along with putting my own personal touch on each character. Corset is made with steel boning, and lined with heavy twill. Each star is hand made by cutting out fabric stars  and gluing thousands of tiny tiny gold balls/beads) and then lining with gold trim. All the beads on this costume are hand painted gold.

Rydia Cosplay WIP

I have such a long list of characters that I want to cosplay and it is always hard for me to come to a conclusion on which one I want to bring to life, so I came up with a  method to help me make my decision easier. One of the things I hate doing is choosing a character and getting so stressed because  I can’t find the perfect fabric or the things I need  so since I already have a large stock of fabrics and supplies  to work with, I use that as a guide to which character I will choose.
One of the characters I have been wanting to do for a long time is Rydia from Final Fantasy. I always loved seeing other’s different interpretations of her and have long been inspired to do my own. When digging through my stash of fabrics, all kind of ideas starting coming to mind. I happened to come across an old green prom dress that I had bought from the $2 goodwill and although it isn’t quite the green I wish it was, I decided to use it anyway. Since I am an artist for a living and don’t have a lot of spare money, I tend  to always improvise and use what I have on hand.

So far all I have completed are the corset and the belt. All the stars are individually cut out, painted, and then I added gold beads, and gold wire trim around the ends, then attached to the top. I then made all the smaller stars and adorned them with jewels. I still have a lot more beading that I plan to add to it.  I still have quite some time until my next convention so I will just work on it as I have spare time available. I wanted to get a head start on my  A-kon/Mechacon costumes.. I have learned over the years that waiting until the last minute is too stressful on me so I am doing my best   to avoid that. More pics of progress coming soon.

Forest Fairy

Wow, I have been doing a really horrible job of keeping up with this blog. I have been posting everything on my Majestic Thorns art blog so started neglecting this one. Feel free to follow me here  where things are more likely to be more updated. I post my costumes, as well as my art dolls, drawings, and modeling pics.

I have a lot of things to update so I will just start where I last left off….my forest fairy costume which was worn to Texas Renaissance festival 1001 Dreams weekend. As with all my costumes, I worked on a budget using old clothing that I cut up  as well as old scraps of fabric. Luckily I have built up quite the collection of random fabrics so I have lots of things to work with. I wanted a messy random look for this costume so all the scraps worked out perfectly.

As for the wings, this was my first pair of fairy wings so it took me a few times making them before I was satisfied. I used the old fashion method of using panty hose over wire and acrylic paints. Although they stressed me out at first and I pouted quite a lot in the beginning, I am quite pleased with how they turned out.

It was quite fun running and bouncing around like a little fairy. In fact, I am so ready for next year so I can make a new pair of wings….although I guess really I have no reason to wait. Who knows maybe I will make a new pair soon. I am thinking purple!!

Forest Fairy costume Wip

This coming weekend is Texas Renaissance Festival 1001 dreams so I have been working on a fairy costume, something I have been wanting to do for a while.  I didn’t have much money to spend on this costume so the entire thing is made of scrap fabric, green tulle and old clothing  that I cut up. The shoes are also some old shoes that I just painted and added flowers and tulle.  I think the only thing I spent money on was the wig, which is from Arda wigs. Also this is my first time making fairy wings and although I was a bit frustrated and had to rip them up several times, I am feeling a little more confident about the way they turned out.

Everything is original design for this costume.

Sakizou Rose Cosplay

Sorry for all the quick posts… I am just trying to update my blog with my newest costumes. This is my 3rd one made for A-kon 25. It’s just a very simple little costume based off Rose from the artworks of Sakizou (yes, again!) During the con I definitely got tired of walking in my mermaid costume (the tail restricted my movements) and my Geisha (big heavy wig) so this was my backup comfortable costume that I changed into usually by the end of the night. Again, I created my own interpretation of the costume.

Everything was created by me. (with the exception of the stockings and lace arm pieces).

Ada Wong Wip

I wore Ada Wong briefly to A-kon 20, however I never got around to doing a photoshoot in this costume so I decided that I am going to fix it up  and wear it on Sunday at the con. I usually don’t dress up on Sundays, for comfort reasons, but I want to take this opportunity to get some decent pictures. Plus, unlike most of my other costumes, it is  relatively comfortable.

Their were a few things I was unhappy with about this costume, such as the butterflies and flowers which for some stupid reason I drew in pencil color. So obviously it faded from the dress and I am now repainting them with acrylic and textile medium. I contemplated embroidering the edges but decided against it due to lack of time. Perhaps I will do this when I have more time.  I would also like to remake the gun which was rushed last minute.
